When you visit, you will understand why it is Bora Bora’s most popular public beach. It stretches from Hotel Bora Bora (currently closed for renovations) to Matira Point and is framed from behind by lush palms and green hills. To each side there are more long strips of privately owned beaches.
Nearest Major International Airport: Visitors must first fly to Papeete in Tahiti, a flight that takes about seven and a half hours from Los Angeles. From there, they can catch a short flight to Bora Bora’s tiny airport on the Motu Mute. This is not a good time to catch a light snooze – passengers will want to keep their eyes open to take in the dramatic scenery and the brilliant azure waters as the plane lands on the narrow island airstrip.
To get to Matira Beach from Vaitape, it’s an nine-minute drive by taxi, scooter or take Le Truck public transport service to Matira Point at the southern tip of Bora Bora.
