Oak Island is an island off the North Carolina coast about 30 minutes south of Wilmington, NC. It is accessible across a bridge (you do not need to take a ferry to get there). This island beaches (Caswell, Yaupon, & Long Beach) are very family and pet friendly. The atmosphere is quiet, relaxing and laid back. Dogs have a wonderful time running on the beach or retrieving toys from the low surf.

Bring or rent a boat and visit the western tip of Oak Island where at low tide, you can walk across the tidal flats—almost to Holden Beach, and climb a small bluff for sweeping views of ocean and green marsh.
The nightlife on Oak Island, NC consists mostly of restaurants, pubs and bars, however there is an ABC Store on the island where you can purchase your own liquor. The nearest movie theater is located a few miles away in Southport. The Oak Island Recreation Department offers free outdoor family themed movies on a regular basis during the tourist season. If you are an outgoing person, you will be able to locate our bars that work late night. Also, never forget to skip our breakfast restaurants.
