Sunny Beach is a seaside resort town in Bulgaria on the coast of the Black Sea. It is a very popular summer beach resort. So popular, in fact, that the town’s population in the summer dwarfs its year-round inhabitance. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. If you are a planning a trip, there are a few tourist traps you should avoid, though.
Sunny Beach sounds like a grand place to visit, relax, and have fun, but that’s not always true in this city in Bulgaria. Here are some warnings and dangers to be aware of, because Sunny Beach is not the kind of place where you want to visit alone or at night.
Don’t Exchange Money on the Streets
Do not exchange money with a person offering to do it in public on the streets. These street vendors will lure you in with highly favorable rates but may give you fake money or even just paper in some instances. Always exchange money with accredited stores.
Avoid the Clubs on Sunny Beach
The majority of the clubs on Sunny Beach are mafia-owned and operated, and should be avoided at all costs. The safest clubs to visit are Eisberg and Lazur. These clubs are located within the complex of the Sunny Beachresort.
Animal Shows on the Beach
There are individuals putting on bear shows on the beach. This might bother you if you have a soft spot in your heart for animals. This used to be something done in the capital city of Sofia as well, but the bears were released and taken to a refuge.
Be Aware at the Beach at Night
Be careful, or avoid the beach altogether at night. There have been reports of theft and robberies there in the past. If you do go to the beach at night, do not go alone. It is also important to be sober, there have been people robbed while passed out on the beach.
